چکیده

We present the query processing algorithm for the Penguin system. Penguin supports multiple object views on a relational database, so that data may be shared by applications with heterogeneous object schemata. Penguin also o ers an interface for the C++ language. We have developed a query processing algorithm for querying composite object views. The query algorithm takes a query on a composite object view, and decomposes it into partial queries on the relational database. The nal query result is composed from those partial results. We also discuss an optimization for reducing the volume of temporary data created in query processing.

Federation views as a basis for querying and updating database federations

This paper addresses the problem of how to query and update so-called database federations. A database federation provides for tight coupling of a collection of heterogeneous component databases into a global integrated system. This problem of querying and updating a database federation is tackled by describing a logical architecture and a general semantic framework for precise specification of...

Query Rewrite for XML in Oracle XML DB

Oracle XML DB integrates XML storage and querying using the Oracle relational and object relational framework. It has the capability to physically store XML documents by shredding them as relational or object relational data, and creating logical XML documents using SQL/XML publishing functions. However, querying XML in a relational or object relational database poses several challenges. The bi...

Building updateable XML views on top of relational databases

In this paper we address the problem of adding XML interface to existing relational database solutions by providing mechanisms for storing, retrieving and querying information which resides in relational database by XML means. These mechanisms should be transparent enough to allow a database to act as a simple set of XML documents with the advantage of much more efficient querying. We describe ...

XML View Materialization with Deferred Incremental Refresh: the Case of a Restricted Class of Views

A view mechanism can provide a user with an appropriate portion of a database through data filtering and aggregation. Views are often materialized for query performance improvement, and in that case, their consistency needs to be maintained against updates of the underlying data. They can be either recomputed or incrementally refreshed by reflecting only the relevant updates. With the emergence...

Constructing and Maintaining Scientific Database Views in the Framework of the Object-Protocol Model

Scientific databases (ScDBs) are used to archive and retrieve data describing objects of scientific inquiry. Since these ScDBs must provide continuous and efficient access to large communities of scientists, they are often developed with reliable commercial relational database management systems (DBMSs) or file systems. However, relational DBMSs and flat files do not provide constructs for repr...
